Memorial Day weekend has arrived once again when those who have given their lives in the various wars to preserve our freedom and liberties are honored and remembered. The day originally commemorated those who died in the Civil War, but it is observed today in remembrance of all Americans who have been killed in active duty.
While we enjoy being off from work, a day of relaxation, recreation, or yard work, let’s not forget those who have given so much that we can have so much in this “land of the free and home of the brave.” Let tomorrow truly be a “Memorial Day” for them.
Today, the Lord’s Day, and every Sunday, is a special memorial day for Christians. It is a day that we remember the death of our Savior, the Son of God. As we eat the bread and drink the fruit of the vine, let’s recall His suffering and death. We are moved at the price He was willing to pay for the freedoms and liberties we enjoy in Christ. We rejoice that the grave could not hold Him. We honor Him as we assemble in His name, praise Him in song, preach His Word, pray to the Father in His name, commemorate His death, and give of our bountiful blessings to support His cause. “This do in remembrance of Me” is our responsibility and privilege. Let today be a memorial day for Christ.
